Welcome to the Luna Park/North 13th Street Business District, home of the Luna Park Business Association. There have been many changes along this historic street in the last 150 years. In the early days, North 13th Street was known as the Oakland Road. Yes, what was then a dirt road was the most direct route between the cities of Oakland and San Jose. North 13th Street has always been one of main gateways to San Jose, lined with commercial businesses to serve the traveler as well as surrounding community.

Don't look for "Luna Park," since it is long gone. Luna Park was a large amusement park created by the San Jose Street Car Company. Formerly located near the current intersection of North 13th Street and Highway 101, it had a roller coaster, carousel, other rides and amusement games, along with large sports fields designed for major spectator events. Luna Park had a relatively short history, lasting only from the early 1900s to the late 1920s, but its legacy endured. The city bus route to the North 13th Street area was known as the Luna Park line for another 50 years.

A large Sicilian immigrant population dominated the Northside neighborhood during most of the last century but now an ethnically diverse population is the driving force of the business district, which features restaurants, bakeries and markets representing American, Vietnamese, Italian and Mexican cuisines. Members of the LPBA include home-based businesses as well as the brick-and-mortar establishments along North 13th Street. Our membership provides a wide range of professional services and products within the neighborhood and beyond—everything from electricians, dentists, florists, hairdressers, graphic designers, CPAs and tax services to landscape design and window coverings.

Come and enjoy the personal touch of locally owned enterprise in the Luna Park Business District. If you are a Northside entrepreneur, join the Luna Park Business Association. Together we can get out the word that this is a great place to do business!

Former President, Luna Park Business Association
